Celebrate the Light
This Friday is the winter solstice, a full moon, and a meteor shower! As we dip towards the shortest and darkest day of the year, I encourage you to celebrate the Long Night Moon that will likely be accompanied by shooting stars.
Celebrating light and lightness is a nudge I often get from the Other Side. In large and small group readings, spirits love to remind the living to lighten up. Recently, at a large group reading in Florida, a real jokester of a spirit spurred me to ask the audience, “Who’s John? And what does John know about underwear?”
No one spoke up. Crickets. And still, this spirit kept showing me a pair of underwear. I said, “I’m not really sure where to go with this, but I’m clearly seeing a pair of underpants.”
The audience laughed but no one owned it.
I continued, “This spirit is insistent on speaking to John… is there a John in the audience?”
An older gentleman standing against the back wall raised his hand.
“Aha! Do you know anything about the underwear?”
He smiled and shook his head ‘no.’
I wasn’t getting anywhere and so I asked the spirit directly, “Spirit—who are you and what is your message?” I heard the name ‘Howard’ and repeated it out loud.
“Oh, Howard’s my brother,” said John. “He died.”
Finally- a connection! We didn’t resolve the ‘underwear’ issue but Howard was able to pass on many meaningful messages to his brother, along with other living family members sitting close to John. In the end, I considered it a win.
Except, that wasn’t the end. Right after the reading, a younger man who’d been sitting with John’s family approached me.
“You’re not going to believe this,” he said and broke into laughter. “John is my dad and Howard was his uncle. And I know about the underwear.”
He told me that he and his wife had just gotten back from a trip. They’d hardly had time to stop home and change clothes before heading over to my event that night. They’d quickly freshened up and rushed out the door and on the drive over, his wife shared with him that she wasn’t wearing underwear because she couldn’t find a clean pair, as they’d had no time to do laundry. She said, “Watch, I can totally see Spirit calling me out on the fact I’m not wearing any!” And sure enough, Howard had called her out!
John’s son said to me: “ I knew this was my uncle’s dry sense of humor coming through and it immediately got our attention!”
“Do me a favor,” I said, “and pass this story on to your dad because I could tell he wasn’t buying my underwear line.”
John’s son continued to laugh and promised that he would clear up any questions over the dirty laundry.
I share this story as another reminder to not only celebrate the return to light this week but to also BE THE LIGHT. Remember to laugh and play, express joy and lightness. Let your spirit shine through to uplift and brighten the world around you.
All love, blessings and a happy holiday.
