Haven Turns 1

As the one-year birthday of our daughter, Haven, approaches (it’s May 19!), I’ve been reflecting on how abundant and full this past year has been. For those of you who have read my latest book, What The Dead Have Taught Me About Living Well, you can appreciate the miracle story of her conception and birth. Against all logic, this baby girl found her way into this world and we are beyond grateful for her will and determination! Haven has taught me how to fully surrender, as my mind had a very different idea and “plan” about where my life was headed before she entered the scene. Every day now, she is a reminder of our limited thinking. What our minds can imagine and even dream up for our lives falls far short of the grand plan God and the universe can conceive.

Abundance is Time with Our Loved Ones

For years I’d been praying for abundance. Now, I can say, be careful what you wish for! My abundant house is overflowing with one teenager, three tweens, an eight-year-old and a soon-to-be toddler. There’s never a dull moment and where it’s full, it can also be overwhelming and challenging at times. Especially when you’re are an empath like me and highly sensitive to energy. Our house is full of it!

But Haven’s pure energy has been a breath of fresh air. She’s a perfect example of what abundance really looks like. Her funny personality and quick wit fill the house with laughter. Her never-ending dialogue of oohs, ahhs, and “wow” moments help us to be more present. Truly, her presence has forced me to slow down and notice the ordinary moments that are extraordinary all on their own. As Winnie the Pooh says, “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”

What spirits so often communicate to their living loved ones, I’ve experienced with Haven. Our lives become more deep, meaningful, and full when we make quality time for, and create memories with, the ones we love. In many ways, Haven has re-awakened me to this truth. She’s been the glue to bring our blended family even closer together. She may only be a year old, but I credit her for being one of my greatest messengers. It’s clear to me that she’s an older soul with much to teach us all.

Keep Love Above Fear

To illustrate this, I want to share how Spirit worked through her as my messenger just the other day. I was having a pretty human moment, wrestling with all the realities and responsibilities of this life. In fact, I was pretty upset about something that had recently come to my attention and I’d sunk into feelings of fear, hopelessness, and raw vulnerability. I cried at my altar, prayed, and then meditated. My guides came through loud and clear, reminding me that I was not alone, my prayers were heard, and that I needed to keep the faith that God’s gotcha and everything will be alright.

Finally, they handed me a rock, which is one of my signs and a symbolic reminder to be strong and carry on. Where I didn’t feel better immediately, the meditation helped me to calm down. I gathered my stuff and left the office for the day. As soon as I arrived home, Haven greeted me with a huge smile and quickly crawled over to me.  Her mere presence filled my heart with so much love that I was able to put my earlier fear on the shelf and focus on being with her.

Haven, My Tiny Messenger

A few hours later, Chris and I poured a glass of wine to unwind and sat down on the floor with Haven. She scooted over to me and before I knew it she dropped a black small rock into my glass of wine. The rock — HA! I love my guides’ sense of humor! They’ve definitely learned how to get my attention and they used Haven this time to deliver the message.

After sharing the relevance of the rock with Chris, Haven then crawls over to Chris and plops something into his glass. A quarter. Once we realized what it was, we about fell over! Quarters are one of Chris’s signs. In readings with me and in his own meditations, his guides have shown him quarters as their way to get his attention and remind him that he’s being supported from the Other Side. WOW. We looked at Haven and then at each other. Just one more confirmation that she is a special being, our little angel spirit, sent here to remind us all to keep love above fear, always and in all ways.

Sending my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have extended your well-wishes, thoughts, and prayers my way since Haven’s birth and over this past year. It means so much to have your love and support as I navigate this new chapter of my life. Happy first birthday to Haven Rose and remember that your love is always stronger than your fear! Keep the faith and know that you’re supported from beyond.

  4. Just briefly, I’m still replaying our Ft Lauderdale reading and taking such comfort from the experience and have a keen sense of an awesome future in store for me as I watch over seven grandchildren and grow in my new relationship that was “highly encouraged” (“NOT her sister!”) and also starting to play golf again. Absolutely amazing and I’m so glad I met you.

  12. I always get tears in my eyes when I see the “newest” Earth Angels (children under 2) passing on messages, Haven is beautiful, you must be so thankful to have to her. My daughter recently spoke my thoughts (she has done since she learned to talk) and told me she will have a baby sister soon not sure whats going to happen as I am separated…. (I have felt the presence of a female child spirit for some time). Love to Haven, & the rest of the family xx
